“Three stars? No thanks!” French chef Sebastian Bras renounces top Michelin award

#WorldMagic

No, this is not a joke! Sebastien Bras, son of art (his father was Michel Bras, an institution of French cuisine), who has been at the helm of the famous restaurant Le Suquet for ten years, asks to be excluded from the 2018 edition of the Michelin guide, thus renouncing the three stars he obtained in 1999.

He announced this on 20 September with a video posted on his facebook page. The reason is excessive pressure. A real life choice made together with his wife, Veronique, which sees him favouring serenity without renouncing excellence. The chef, in fact, is keen to make it clear that the focus on quality and excellence will remain high and will remain the hallmark of his cuisine.

The Guide’s response was not long in coming. Claire Dorland-Clauzel, a member of the Michelin group’s executive committee, said she was prepared to take note of the request without, however, assuring that it would be granted. Although the chef’s decision is surprising, he is actually not the first to suffer from this dangerous performance anxiety.

In some dramatic cases, the pressure from star chefs, albeit for different reasons, has even led to suicide (Bernard Loiseau, Pierre Jaubert and Franco Colombani, for example). In any case, we are happy that our dear beloved Chef Bras preferred serenity to glory. Or will this choice give them, if possible, even more?
